Lenovo
is all set to bring to India one of the classiest phones it has made
so far. The company is planning to hold a media event on Monday in New
Delhi where it is almost certain to launch the Vibe S1 smartphone.
Targeted at consumers who value design and want a smartphone that looks great, the Vibe S1 is likely to cost more than Rs.20,000. The phone has a 5-inch screen with 1080p resolution. It is powered by Mediatek MT6752 processor that has 8-cores capable of notching up the speed of up to 1.7GHz. The phone has generous 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a 13-megapixel rear camera. It uses Mali T760 graphics processor, which ought to be good enough to handle new Android games like Implosion at high graphics settings.
One of the top features of the Vibe S1, other than its good looks, is its focus on selfie photography. The phone comes with two front cameras. The primary camera of these two shoots 8-megapixel images while the secondary camera captures the depth of field. This allows Lenovo to offer consumers features like refocus through which they can create selfies with blurred background.
Of late, Lenovo is trying to include a little bit more differentiation in its product line up. This, the company believes, will help it distinguish its products from other phones in the market. A more focused approach in the line-up also helps Lenovo in creating a more unique product portfolio.
As part of this approach, the company recently launched the Vibe Shot , which offers consumers best possible mobile phone photography features. It also launched the Vibe P1M and Vibe P1, which have bigger batteries and hence are aimed at consumers who don't want to charge their smartphones every three hours.
The S1 is continuation of the same strategy. It offers consumers premium design and premium feel. The Vibe S1 was first showcased at the IFA in Germany earlier this year.
Even as phone makers focus on mainstream devices at more affordable prices, some companies have renewed their interest in the premium designs. Recently, OnePlus launched the OnePlus X , an incredibly sharp looking phone. With a price of around Rs.17,000, OnePlus X would compete with the Vibe S1 when Lenovo launches its phone.
