iota Lite LED Smart Bulb Review

My review on the iota Lite LED Smart Bulb which i have purchased through Flip-kart. Below are the features/ Specifications on the same.

  • 500 Lumens
  • Bluetooth v4.0
  • LED Technology
  • TI Processor
  • Range: 15 m
It is a smart led light which can be lit in one of the 16 million colors using Bluetooth (download an app called lite in your smart phone). It comes with pre configured modes like (Study mode, Party mode, candle etc.)
It comes with a Screw connector which is not common in India so iota is providing an adapter which can be used to connect to Indian pin connector.

Below are my observations about the smart bulb
  • Connecting to Bluetooth is simple, just need to download the app and you are good to go.
  • If you are thinking it can replace the main bulb in your house you are wrong, this can be used as a reading bulb (7W)
  • No pure white light, all you get is yellow ( which is quite annoying atleast for me)
  • It has got a notifications ( for calls, msg. etc) which works very well
  • You can sync it to the music ( need to download a separate app)
  • Can change the intensity of the brightness
  • Only the Yellow color is bright, all other are quite Dim even at maximum intensity.

Functionality wise this is quite good for the price( I got it for 1500Rs) way too cheap than Philips hue.

OnePlus Icons slated for sale on Amazon India

Unlike its smartphones, you can buy the OnePlus Icons earphones without standing in a virtual line or needing an invite.
A musical experience unlike any other - OnePlus Icons will soon be available on Amazon from Monday, 30th November.

Be it during a long journey or a morning jog or even while you are sitting through a boring class, with the OnePlus icons you will always enjoy listening to your favourite tracks.

The actual earphones are held in place by two small cylinders, one bigger than the other, which connect the earphone to the audio cable. Up until the point where the right and left cables join, they’re coated in the usual, flimsy plastic insulation. Between the metal-casing on the audio jack and where the R/L cables join, the cable is wrapped in a more durable fabric. There’s also an inline microphone with volume up/down buttons as well as a play/pause button. The OnePlus Icons come in either silver or gold finishes.

Raspberry Pi Zero sells out within 24 hours

The UK-based educational nonprofit released a new, tiny computer on Thursday for $5, the Raspberry Pi Zero, and sold out of it online within a day.
Raspberry Pi even gave away 10,000 devices for free with a copy of its December magazine, The MagPi. Issues of the magazine are now sold out too.

The Raspberry Pi Zero is smaller than a mustard packet and light.
To use it, you'll have to add your own monitor, keyboard, power source and data storage, via a micro-SD card slot.
It has 1-GHz processor and 512 megabytes of RAM, it packs as much computing power as the iPhone 4. There's even a mini-HDMI socket so you can play HD videos.

The Pi Zero, priced at just £4 (or $5), is essentially just a cheaper and smaller version of the Raspberry Pi 1 Model A+. It has the same Broadcom SoC (but the CPU is clocked at 1GHz rather than 700MHz) and lacks a 3.5mm audio jack, but is otherwise almost identical. The main difference, of course, is the price, the Pi Zero is about a third of the price of a Model A+.

Instagram is testing support for multiple accounts

The new Instagram app version 7.12.0 on Android might begin supporting multiple accounts on one device which itself is only available for Android beta testers and can be found by scrolling all the way to the bottom of settings.

In case you did receive the update, then you should see an “Add Account” option under the “Clear Search History” option on the settings list. This basically means that you can now add or create another account to use simultaneously with your present account already logged in.

OnePlus confirms that its USB Type-C cables and adapters can damage external power sources

About a couple of weeks ago, Google engineer Benson Leung reviewed the USB Type-C cable and adapter that come with the OnePlus 2, finding that both of them use non-standard resistors which may damage to external power sources in certain circumstances.

Back when Leung first made his claims, OnePlus insisted that “the OnePlus USB Type-C cable and adapter are compliant with USB 2.0 and Type-C 1.0 protocols,” but technically we weren’t talking about either of those, and Leung’s objections had to do specifically with the USB type-C 1.1 standard.
Now OnePlus is ready to admit that Leung was right, and rather than the 10kΩ resistor currently in its USB type-C accessories, version 1.1 dictates that a 56kΩ resistor should instead be present.

OnePlus says that its USB Type-C cable and adapter will not create any trouble as long as they are being used with the OnePlus 2. Those who've purchased the cable or the adapter separately can get a full refund by heading over to the source link below and filling out the form there.

PlayStation 2 emulation comes to PlayStation 4

The PlayStation 2 isn't just Sony's best-selling games console. It's still the best-selling console ever.
Now, it's finally possible to play PS2 games on the current PlayStation 4 – in theory and, in three instances, in practise as well.

It's a major breakthrough, but not one announced by Sony PlayStation itself. Instead, tech-focused outlets have been picking up on the discovery.
"The arrival of PS2 emulation on the PlayStation 4 is a big deal... [It's] one of the classic pieces of console hardware, and the ability to access that back catalogue with enhanced visuals is a tantalizing proposition," wrote Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter.
The community was alert to the possibility of emulated PS2 games in January 2014. By September 2015, Gematsu had found fresh age ratings for three classic PlayStation 2 games – Ape Escape 2, Dark Cloud 2 and Twisted Metal: Black – concluding that emulation was nearly here.
But instead of September's suspects, it's actually a clutch of Star Wars tie-ins that show the PlayStation 2 back catalogue – or part of it, at least – is coming to PlayStation 4.
The achievement was flagged up after 2002's Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, part of a promotional Star Wars Classics bundle, were this week released as PlayStation Network downloads.
Each of the older games start up by showing the PlayStation 2 logo, the PlayStation 4 touchpad subs in for the PS2's Start and Select buttons, and the PS4 pretends that game data is stored on PS2 memory cards.
Original, low-resolution graphics are now not quite High Definition, but are certainly much better suited to HD displays; there's also support for progress-related Trophies, a PlayStation Network feature that didn't arrive until 2008.
"You can safely say that none of this would be happening if this were [remastered for PS4.]" Leadbetter remarked in an explanatory video.
The news comes after the Xbox One was made compatible with a 104-title roster of old Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade games on Nov 12.
Those Xbox 360 and XBLA games could be played at no additional cost, and after completing a digital download, upon the presentation of a retail disc or relevant Xbox Live account.
PlayStation confirmed to Wired that it was working on PS2 emulation for the PS4, but did not outline how that would work in terms of release schedule or pricing practices. — AFP Relaxnews

Apple buys Faceshift, a motion capture company

Apple has confirmed its acquisition of Faceshift, a Zurich-based motion capture company whose technology is being used in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Rumors of the acquisition first appeared a couple months ago, and Apple has now confirmed the deal with TechCrunch. Faceshift’s software is able to capture facial expressions and graft them onto digital avatars in near real-time. Intel demoed the technology with its 3D RealSense cameras earlier this year, and the 0:41 second mark of this Star Wars: The Force Awakens video shows a glimpse of Faceshift in action.
As usual, Apple didn’t elaborate on why it made the purchase or how it might use the technology. But one can always speculate.
The ability to recognize someone’s unique facial expressions could be useful for enterprise security applications, as TechCrunch notes. Turning people into digital avatars could also prove handy with the rise of virtual or augmented reality. Although Apple hasn’t revealed any initiatives on those fronts, the company could be toying with ideas given the current VR/AR efforts from Microsoft, Google, and Facebook.
Faceshift isn’t the only company Apple has acquired along these lines. Apple bought face recognition firm Polar Rose in 2010, and picked up PrimeSense, a maker of 3D motion detection sensors, a couple years back. And earlier this year, Apple acquired Metaio, whose augmented reality technology was being used by major brands such as Macy’s and Ikea. So far, however, none of those acquisitions have made an clear transition to consumer-facing Apple products.

$100 price cut by Amazon on Samsung Galaxy View

Just a couple of weeks after Samsung’s gigantic Galaxy View tablet launched in the US, it’s gotten a significant discount from Amazon.
Amazon has slashed $100 off the price of the Samsung Galaxy View, leaving its price at $499.99. As of this writing, Amazon says that it’s got 7 units left in stock, so you’d better act quick if you want to save $100 on Samsung’s big  tablet.

While $499 still isn’t exactly a cheap price for a new tablet, $100 is still a notable discount on the still pretty new Galaxy View. So if you’ve been thinking about treating yourself to a new tablet for the holidays, this is one deal to consider, so long as a tablet with an 18.4-inch display is something you want in your life.

4K NVIDIA Shield Android TV now comes with a free remote

The NVIDIA Shield Android TV set-top box is now an even better value thanks to the addition of a TV-style remote. The $49.99 accessory for the device has been available as a separate purchase, but it is now bundled with the Shield Android TV and its game controller without raising its current $199.99 price tag. Amazon is offering the package for $175.

NVIDIA decided to promote this new offer for the Shield Android TV with a rather cool video that shows a man in a plane who is placed in a special rig where he could play games and watch video on the set-top box while in the air. Then that rig was ejected from the plane at 10,000 feet. As it states in the video itself, don't try this at home.
The free remote is only being offered for a limited time with the Shield Android TV, according to NVIDIA's site, but there's no word on when the promotion will expire.

Titan joins hands with HP to launch smart watches, coming soon

Watch-maker Titan and global information technology major HP joined hands to offer a range of smart watches to be launched soon.
The new relationship between HP and Titan combine innovative materials, design and custom technology to deliver products that are responsive, and not intrusive, Titan Co said in a statement.
"The range of smart watches will be launched later this year in India and select international markets," it added.

Titan Co CEO (Watches and Accessories Division) S Ravi Kant said the two companies would create a unique lifestyle offering for people not only in India, but across the world.
This category of smart watches is going to change the way people view the art of timekeeping and beyond. They can still wear "a drop-dead gorgeous watch on their wrist infused with 'smart' technology for a new era of access and connectivity", he added.
HP Inc General Manager, Wearables and Smart Platforms Sridhar Solur said said although personal style is the ultimate self-expression, some smart accessories on the market force consumers to sacrifice form for function.
"Our legacy of innovation is helping fashion-forward brands infuse technology into their designs to give consumers the stylish timepieces they want but that are more connected and responsive to the way they live today," Solur said.
Titan, a JV between Tata Group and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has presence in watches, jewellery and eyewear. It closed 2014-15 with an income of Rs 11,791 crore, a growth of 9 per cent over the previous year.

Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X Users Reporting More Handset Issues

The Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P is now in the news for having voice quality issues. Its smaller sibling, the LG-made Google Nexus 5X, is also reportedly facing issues with touchscreen responsiveness during charging.

According to user complaints on several threads from XDA forum and Google Product Forum, many Nexus 6P users are facing weak and spotty voice quality problems. This means that receivers are not able to hear Nexus 6P users properly. Majority of the users are facing problems using both the regular call mode and in speaker mode, all of which is resulting in them questioning the handset's microphone quality.
According to some users on the Google Product forum, the problem may be linked with the handset's noise cancellation setup. While some say that covering the rear microphone (placed below the rear camera) fixes the issue, some say that it actually is the reason why the problem occurs. A users named Nicholas Fitchett posted on Google Product forum saying that he disabled noise cancellation completely from the hardware via a build.prop modification and the smartphone worked just fine since then.
However, as more complaints continue to pour in to the forum, Google representatives have replied to the forum posts and are investigating the issue. "Thanks for your continued reports regarding poor call quality. The product team is investigating, and I'll update this thread as I have more information. I may reach out to a few of you for bug reports as well," said a Google employee named Orrin. In a separate forum post, Google product experts are recommending users to start their handsets in Safe Mode and see if the issue still exists. If it does, then Nexus 6P users can contact the Nexus support team for further help. If the problem does not exist in Safe Mode, this means a third-party app downloaded on the handset is causing the problem.
On the other hand, Nexus 5X users are facing a touchscreen issue while handset is charging, as seen from some forum posts. Some users are saying the reduced touchscreen responsiveness is most noticeable while typing fast on the keyboard while the handset is on charge, even with the original charger. Others are finding lags while scrolling or swiping on the display.
"Has anyone else found the scroll/swipe speed to be slow on the Nexus 5X compared to other handsets? Annoyingly, I can't find any settings for this. The issue is global and not limited to one app. With pointer trails on, there is visible lag between my finger's input and what happens on-screen. I've never seen this on any other device," said a user on XDA forum.
However, a final edit on the Reddit forum posts claims the chargers as the issue and not the Nexus 5X. "We've also worked out the issue - it's with the chargers, not the phones. They're insufficiently grounded. When a charger with a proper metal grounding pin is used, there are no problems. The grounding pin on the supplied LG charger is plastic," posted the user. Google is however, yet to address the issue. This is not the first time the LG-made Nexus 5X has been in the news for user issues. To note, soon after its launch in October, some Nexus 5X users also reported their handset displays had a yellow tint.

Nokia agrees to buys Alcatel to take on Ericsson in telecom equipment

Nokia has announced its intention to acquire telecoms equipment company Alcatel-Lucent for €15.6 billion ($16.6 billion). The deal will solidify Nokia's ambitions to become a major provider of networking equipment that competes with market leader Ericsson, following the sale of its mobile hardware division to Microsoft. Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent plan to close the deal in the first half of 2016. The new company is expected to use the Nokia brand, but will retain Alcatel-Lucent's Bell Labs name for its R&D activities.

Nokia moves to take on Ericsson

With about 114,000 employees and sales of around 26 billion euros, the combined company will rank a strong second in mobile equipment, with global market share of 35 percent, behind Ericsson at 40 percent and ahead of Huawei's 20 percent, according to Bernstein Research.

The new Nokia will have stronger exposure to the important North American market, with major AT&T and Verizon contracts.

"The combined company will be uniquely positioned to create the foundation of seamless connectivity for people and things wherever they are," Nokia said in a statement. "This foundation is essential for enabling the next wave of technological change, including the Internet of Things and transition to the cloud. With more than 40,000 R&D employees and spend of €4.7 billion in R&D in 2014, the combined company will be in a position to accelerate development of future technologies including 5G, IP and software-defined networking, cloud, analytics as well as sensors and imaging."
In separate but related news, Nokia also announced today that it is reviewing its Here mapping business and may consider selling it off. "The strategic review of Here is on-going and it may or may not result in any transaction," reads a statement, which says that the proposal of the Alcatel-Lucent merger is "the right moment" to evaluate Here's future value.

HTC Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals include One A9, One M9, and more

The next company to reveal its Black Friday and Cyber Monday plans? Why, it’s HTC.
The focus of HTC’s upcoming sales is on the One A9, the company’s latest hero phone. If you’re willing to trade in a smartphone, HTC will give you a rebate to be used toward a new One A9. How much of a rebate you get depends on which phone you trade in:

  • iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus will get you $499.99, which is enough to cover the full cost of an HTC One A9
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge will get you a $200 rebate
  • LG G3 or LG G4 will get you a $100 rebate
This HTC One A9 deal will run from November 26 through December 2.
The One A9 isn’t the only product that’ll be a part of HTC’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. In addition, the One M9, Nexus 9, RE camera, and some accessories will be discounted:
  • November 26-November 27: 40 percent off all Nexus 9 models, free Logitech keyboard for first 500 people that buy 32GB LTE Nexus 9
  • November 28-November 29: 40 percent off all accessories
  • November 30-December 2: 60 percent off HTC RE camera, first 900 buyers get free RE Protection Pack
  • November 30-December 2: 40 percent off HTC One M9
These sales will only be good while supplies last, so if one of them caught your eye, you’d be wise to mosey over to HTC’s website early on your deal’s day. There are some nice deals to be had during HTC’s promotion, and while it might be nice to see flagship phones like the Galaxy S6 and G4 get owners a larger rebate, you can always try to sell your phone another way if you really want a One A9.

Pepsi P1 has officially been announced

The beverage company has finally announced its smartphone, but it is worth it?

Popular beverage company Pepsi has finally announced its smartphone, and it is called Pepsi P1. Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign gone well, the company was able to sell backers the smartphone for a price of $78 initially. Now that those units are all sold out, there are the $110 and $150 models being sold. Now, when these units are sold out too, then the device is going to be sold for the price of $200, according to the latest source.

For the price of $200, you are getting a decent smartphone that is running a MediaTek MT6592 chipset. The chipset is running an octa-core Cortex-A7 chip at 1.7GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. There is also 16GB of internal memory present inside Pepsi P1, and while there is support for a storage card slot, we currently do not have information on how much it actually supports. To make the smartphone sport a flexible outlook, Pepsi P1 also supports dual SIM compatibility, with the function of LTE connectivity present as well.

The disappointing thing about Pepsi P1 is that it is not running Android Marshmallow, but Android Lollipop 5.1, despite being released later in the year. However, the smartphone has a 5.5 inch 1080p 2.5D type display, and a 3,000mAh battery life, which is not so bad, considering the $200 price tag. There is also an 802.11n adapter and a BT 4.0 module present.

Currently, there is no word on availability, but it looks like Pepsi is going to keep it limited to the Chinese market. If there is a positive outlook towards the smartphone in this market, then there is a very high probability that Pepsi P1 could make its way to other markets, otherwise, it will still be a nice product for the Chinese to spend their hard earned $200 on.

Lenovo to launch Vibe S1 in India on Monday

Lenovo is all set to bring to India one of the classiest phones it has made so far. The company is planning to hold a media event on Monday in New Delhi where it is almost certain to launch the Vibe S1 smartphone.

Targeted at consumers who value design and want a smartphone that looks great, the Vibe S1 is likely to cost more than Rs.20,000. The phone has a 5-inch screen with 1080p resolution. It is powered by Mediatek MT6752 processor that has 8-cores capable of notching up the speed of up to 1.7GHz. The phone has generous 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a 13-megapixel rear camera. It uses Mali T760 graphics processor, which ought to be good enough to handle new Android games like Implosion at high graphics settings.
One of the top features of the Vibe S1, other than its good looks, is its focus on selfie photography. The phone comes with two front cameras. The primary camera of these two shoots 8-megapixel images while the secondary camera captures the depth of field. This allows Lenovo to offer consumers features like refocus through which they can create selfies with blurred background.
Of late, Lenovo is trying to include a little bit more differentiation in its product line up. This, the company believes, will help it distinguish its products from other phones in the market. A more focused approach in the line-up also helps Lenovo in creating a more unique product portfolio.
As part of this approach, the company recently launched the Vibe Shot , which offers consumers best possible mobile phone photography features. It also launched the Vibe P1M and Vibe P1, which have bigger batteries and hence are aimed at consumers who don't want to charge their smartphones every three hours.
The S1 is continuation of the same strategy. It offers consumers premium design and premium feel. The Vibe S1 was first showcased at the IFA in Germany earlier this year.
Even as phone makers focus on mainstream devices at more affordable prices, some companies have renewed their interest in the premium designs. Recently, OnePlus launched the OnePlus X , an incredibly sharp looking phone. With a price of around Rs.17,000, OnePlus X would compete with the Vibe S1 when Lenovo launches its phone.

Apple accepts there is problem with iPad Pro

Apple has finally acknowledged that there is problem with iPad Pro. The company has published a support document that tells users what to do in case there "iPad Pro stops responding and the screen is black".

The company added that it "is aware of this issue and is investigating."

Several users of Apple's new 12.9-inch tablet have taken to discussion forums and social media to complain about how the device's screen refuses to turn back after charging.

A user going with the name 'darkfire.shadows' wrote on Apple's support website:

Hello,
I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Thanks.

The post had so far received 349 comments.

For now, Apple's suggestion to users who face this issue is, "To get back to using your iPad Pro, force restart it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo."

Xiaomi smartwatch rumored for November 24 event

Xiaomi is gearing up for a press event next week, and rumor has it the company could have an armload of new devices to announce. That includes at least one new phone, an upgraded tablet and maybe even the firm’s first smartwatch.

According to Chinese tipster Leaksfly, the company will release a new watch at the upcoming event. The post doesn’t include any other details, though this isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers of a Xiaomi smartwatch. According to earlier reports, the device could target the high-end market with a brushed metal design. The new wearable would run a modified version of Xiaomi’s Android-based MiUI.
Xiaomi recently unveiled a second-generation version of its Mi Band. The new device costs just $15 and packs a heart rate monitor along with a water-resistant design. It also works with both iOS and Android devices. Hopefully this next Xiaomi smartwatch can offer everything included with the Mi Band and more. We’re also curious to see how the company adopts its customized software to a smaller display.

Xiaomi teases a metal Mi Pad 2 tablet

Chinese phone-maker Xiaomi has another big event coming up next week, and while the focus may be on a new metal handset, the company could also have something else to show off. Earlier rumors have hinted at an upgraded Mi Pad tablet, and now Xiaomi’s own president appears to have revealed the device in question.

In a post on Weibo, the company’s co-founder shared a picture of what looks like a metal tablet. All we can see is one corner of the device, which shows the rear camera along with power and volume buttons on the side. The new design looks pretty nice, especially compared to the brightly colored plastic shells featured on Xiaomi’s original Mi Pad.
The Mi Pad 2 is expected pack some upgraded specs as well. That includes a new quad-core Intel Chip, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. This is still more of an entry-level tablet, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look good at the same time.
Lin Bin also recently teased a gold-colored metal smartphone with a fingerprint reader in back just below the camera. This appears to be the Redmi Note 2 Pro, an upgraded version of Xiaomi’s recent phablet. As for the flagship Mi5, we’re still hoping to see it unveiled next week, though it’s possible the company could save that announcement for early 2016.

Obi Worldphone SF1 smartphone confirmed to Launch in India in Nov

Obi Mobiles is a smartphone brand founded by John Sculley, ex-CEO of Apple. The company started its operation India in 2014 by rebranding and selling the Chinese devices. In early 2015, it had stopped this business model and was relaunched as ‘Obi  Worldphone‘ and launched two new smartphones that are designed by Robert Brunner who had worked as industrial design director at Apple for nearly a decade.

The company began selling both these smartphones in middle-east countries and few selected Asian countries. Now the company is targeting India as their next big destination. While the company’s line-up includes two devices namely Obi Worldphone SF1 and Worldphone SJ1.5, it had chosen to launch only the SF1 model in India.

Talking about the Indian launch, Neeraj Chauhan, Co-Founder and CEO of Obi Worldphone, said, “We plan to launch Obi Worldphone in India within this month and are committed to work relentlessly to enthral consumers with our innovations in design, state-of-the-art technology and high standards for manufacturing to deliver inspiring products that overturn the general assumption that great design has to come at a high price.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon  615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and comes in two variants with 2GB/3GB of RAM. On the camera front, it has a 13MP rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and dual LED flash, on the front it comes with a 5MP selfie camera accompanied with front-facing flash for better selfies even in the dark.
The dual SIM device also supports 4G LTE and offers other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. It has a 3,000mAh battery that can give up to 28 hours of talk time and lasts up to 20 days on standby. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based on customised Obi Lifespeed UI.
